ROCKWELL, Iowa – Farming is one of the most dangerous jobs with 26 deaths for every 100,000 workers.
You can bet emergency situations are planned for ahead of time. Firefighters from eight local fire departments gathered in Rockwell to do training on grain bin rescues. The Cerro Gordo County Farm Bureau hosted the event.
They also donated grain bin rescue equipment to each station.
“We recognize the problem that’s out there, that people get trapped in grain bins. We wanted to be able to put the equipment in the hands of the people that need it the most,” said Chuck Grove with the bureau.
The firefighters split into groups to train on the equipment. The training took place at the Five Star Co-op in downtown Rockwell.
