FREEBORN COUNTY, Minn. – An Albert Lea man is seriously injured after a motorcycle crash.
22-year-old Christoper Edwards is suffering from life-threatening head injuries. The crash happened at the intersection of County Road 22 and 250th Street in Bancroft Township, just north of Albert Lea.
Authorities believe Edwards lost control when he was going around a curve. They said the motorcycle appeared to have entered the ditch and flipped twice, throwing Edwards off the bike.
Freeborn County Sheriff Bob Kindler said Edwards had been drinking prior to the crash.
“We constantly preach don’t drink and drive. That is certainly one thing that we believe played a part in this.. And for motorcyclists, wear a helmet. Had he had a helmet on, he likely wouldn’t have suffered those severe head injuries that he did receive,” said Sheriff Kindler.
Authorities said edwards had last been seen at a friend’s residence at around 11:00 pm on Wednesday night. His family reported that he had not returned home at around 4:30 am Thursday morning. He was then found about an hour later.///
Edwards was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Albert Lea. He was then transferred to a Rochester hospital where’s he’s listed in critical condition.
