North Iowa murder trial rescheduled

THOMAS BARLAS

MASON CITY, Iowa – The first degree murder trial of a north Iowa man has been delayed.

43-year-old Thomas Barlas Jr. of Mason City is accused of stabbing his father to death in July 2013.  His trial was scheduled to begin Monday, but this week Barlas Jr. requested a bench trial, which means the evidence will be heard and decided on by a judge instead of a jury, and a new judge was assigned to the case.

A new trial date has been set for August 6.
