Council votes on aggressive panhandling in Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. – It’s an issue we have been covering for a month, and now local leaders put it to a vote.

Monday night the Rochester City Council talked about aggressive panhandling in the city. They decided to add a few ordinances that will make panhandling illegal within 15 feet of ATM’s and banks for example. Mayor, Ardell Brede says he is on board with the idea, but says there isn’t much else they can do. “It’s a step. I think from one standpoint, it gives the council and maybe the public the [information that the] council is trying to do something about it,” Mayor Brede said.

Those ordinances should be in effect by September.
