MASON CITY, Iowa – Earlier this week, it may have seemed like a lot of people and bikes, but now, the only trace left is some garbage. Another big event for Mason City takes place this weekend, the Barbecue Bash. With such a quick turn around after RAGBRAI, it takes volunteers for some quick cleanup.
On Thursday morning, committee heads tell us they can use all the help they can get. The cleanup will begin as everyone heads out of town that morning, around 9:00 a.m. One city official says it’s important that the town look its best this weekend.
“Barbecue Bash is obviously another big attraction for the city. It’s a good chance to showcase our community, and we definitely want it looking good for all those people that are coming in,” says head of the Sanitation Committee, Perry Buffington.
He says they hope to have everything back to normal and cleaned up by noon on Thursday.
