MASON CITY, Iowa – It’s an event that draws hundreds to north Iowa for award winning barbeque.
The Up in Smoke Barbeque Bash continues in Mason City.
Friday, folks got the chance to sample some top of the line barbeque.
But Saturday, it’s all business for the competition cooks. More than sixty judges are sampling dishes from more than fifty cooks, all hoping for the title of best barbeque. The competition is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
“They bring their entries to the table, and the judges start judging them. They judge first for appearance, and they judge taste and tenderness. They have no idea whose product it is. They just judge it on it’s own value,” says Bill Gage with KCBS.
The overall 2014 champion is Big T’s Q Crew. Second place goes to Pigskin BBQ, and in third place goes to A Boy & His BBQ.
