CLEAR LAKE, Iowa – Several people were injured, after boats collided on Clear Lake early Sunday.
According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office,a 2000 Cobalt boat driven by Andrew Nicholas, 28 of Clear Lake, struck a docked boat and the end of the dock, destroying both.
Sheriff’s Deputy, Tami Cavett with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s office says, once the boat had hit the shore, Nicholas managed to float the group over to the South Shore Inn in an attempt to find a more suitable place to call for help. Officers responded to the scene and the Clear Lake Fire and Rescue, along with Mason City Medics treated those injured in the incident.
Nicholas and another passenger, Taylor Olson, 23 of Clear Lake, were transported by ambulance. Two other passengers were transported by private vehicles and treated at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, for their injuries.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing, and Cavett tells us that all they know is, “there were 10 people on the boat, and the other boat that they hit was unoccupied. The dock was damaged during that time, and so far, there are no charges.” Officials with the Sheriff’s Office and Iowa DNR will be carrying out the rest of the investigation.
