Back to school immunizations

KIMT NEWS 3 – There are new laws in Minnesota that parents will need to be aware of.

Hepatits A and B vaccinations are needed for children entering child care or preschool.

Students starting 7th grade will need the meningitis and whooping-cough vaccines as well.

7th graders in Iowa can start on the Hepatisis vaccines, but it is not required.
A local registered nurse at the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health said it’s important to know exactly which vaccines are required by law.

“We want to protect children themselves, and make sure that they aren’t going to become sick with these illnesses. When they go to school, there are children at school that cannot receive their vaccines due to medical conditions, so we want to protect them .By protecting our children that can receive the vaccines, we’re also protecting the kids that can’ receive the vaccines.”
