FLOYD COUNTY, Iowa – The trial for a man accused of killing 5-year-old Evelyn Miller nearly ten years ago has been pushed back.
Casey Frederiksen is charged with murder and sexual abuse in the 2005 case. At the time, Frederiksen was dating Evelyn’s mother.
The defense filed a motion to continue the trial on Thursday. His attorney says the state listed a new expert witness and needed more time to prepare for trial.
Judge Gregg Rosenbladt granted that motion. The trial was scheduled to begin on September 15. Now a trial setting conference is scheduled for September 16. Also on that date the court will decide upon another motion filed previously by the defense.
It will decide whether or not to prohibit any evidence of child pornography on Frederiksen’s computer during the trial. The defense believes it is irrelevant.
The trial will be held in Webster City. It was moved from Floyd County because of concerns to find an impartial trial.
