ALBERT LEA, Minn. – It is a community that is surrounded by lakes, so it is important that they keep them healthy.
The Albert Lea Lakes Foundation works to improve and restore area bodies of water. They are holding a membership drive to help raise funds to continue doing that.
“About a year and a half ago, we reinvigorated the group, got a lot of excitement going and have a couple of projects coming down the pipeline. Our main goal is promoting our lakes, our lakes don’t have their own voice,” said Matt Benda, a director with the Albert Lea Lakes Foundation.
Although it was not with funds they raised, the organization worked hard to get the Golden Point Launch on Albert Lea Lake.
“It’s just amazing how much we rely on water, and how much we’re surrounded by it. It gives our town such a unique feel. I think everybody that walks around the lake or drives through town is just amazed by what it offers, and how much quality of life it adds,” Benda said.
He said their goal is to raise $20,000 during the drive. And they are well on their way to doing that.
