ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – A Mason City native has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in Minnesota.

Jim Phillips of Mason City says authorities notified him that his son, 48-year-old Kelly L. Phillips of Minneapolis, was shot to death Monday morning.  Ramsey County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a gas station at 1920 West Highway 96 in Arden Hills at around 8:40 am.  They found Kelly Phillips had been shot.  He was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office says it believes Phillips and the suspect in this shooting arrived at the gas station in the same vehicle, where the suspect shot Phillips and then drove away from the scene.  A person of interest has been interviewed in this case but authorities are still trying to locate the vehicle, a dark grey 2011 BMW 535i with Minnesota license plate 004 EYY.  Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to call 9-1-1.

Jim Phillips describes this experience as “every parent’s worst nightmare” and says his son, an executive at Boston Scientific, was going to be married in two and a half weeks.
