MASON CITY, Iowa – To help meet the rising costs of school supplies, we’re getting a look at what options are available in our area.
As part of the Giving Your Best initiative, families in need of some assistance were invited to pick-up school supplies and backpacks today at the Mason City Salvation Army.
The 7th annual Back-to-School drive provides for kids K through 12.
“It was really crazy this morning. We had people here waiting this morning when I got here at eight. They were lined up, ready to come in when we opened the doors at nine. We’ve just been busy ever since,” said Tracy Hedegard with the Mason City Salvation Army.
Although distribution has ended, you can still call the Salvation Army and make an appointment to pick up left-over school supplies.
Families must bring proof of income, proof of expenses and proof of family members to qualify.
“It is very expensive to send the kids back to school, and it’s important for these kids that might not have new school supplies or backpacks. We want to make them start off on the right foot, and have the right items to go to school,” said Hedegard.
Counties eligible include Winnebago, Mitchell, Howard, Hancock, Cerro Gordo and Floyd.
Our Giving Your Best partners include Diamond Jo Casino and First Citizens National Bank.
