ALBERT LEA, Minn. – Thousands of homeowners in Minnesota are eligible for tax refunds, and the deadline to apply is fast approaching.
Friday marks the last day to apply for property tax refunds.
Thousand of people in Freeborn County alone are expected to see a larger refund this year. Some may see up to $2,580. That varies based on things like income and the amount of property taxes you currently pay.
There is a renter’s property tax refund and two types of homeowner tax refunds.
“It’s been out there for several years. I think it’s kind of a best kept secret that it is available to homeowners and renters,” said Freeborn County Auditor-Treasurer, Pat Martinson.
You can find the information at your local auditor-treasurer’s office, or by going to the Department of Revenue’s website.
