MASON CITY, Iowa- A church bell tower that has overlooked Mason City since the early 1950’s is in need of repairs.
This past May, the people of the First Methodist United Church in Mason City decided instead of building a brand new bell tower, they would rebuild the old one.
Now after only 10 weeks since the plan was approved, the church almost has enough money to refurbish the tower.
Dick Leet of the “Saving Our Tower” group is proud of all the efforts that have gone into this project, especially since most of the money came from the church congregation.
“I’m really proud of the church people,” Leet says. “They were faced with a very tough decision, and they came through to raise money and get construction underway.”
