CLEAR LAKE, Iowa – The North Iowa Democrats are gathering for the 11th annual Wing Ding event in Clear Lake. The fundraiser featured a keynote speaker, retiring U.S. Senator Tom Harkin. Senator Harkin is noted for his signature piece of legislation meant to protect the civil rights of millions of Americans with physical and mental disabilities. This historic legislation is known as the Americans With Disabilities Act. He also had a large part in the drafting and passage of the Lily Ledbetter Act. The Annual Beacon Award was also presented on Friday night. It was awarded to former U.S. Representative, Leonard Boswell.
The North Iowa Wing Ding represents seventeen counties in Iowa including: Butler, Calhoun, Cerro Gordo, Dickinson, Emmet, Floyd, Franklin, Hancock, Hardin, Howard, Kossuth, Mitchell, Paso Alto, Winnebago, Woodbury, Worth and Wright.
