RAMSEY COUNTY, Minn. – The man suspected of killing Kelly Phillips has now been charged with murder.
The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office has charged 44-year-old Lyle Marvin “Ty” Hoffman with second degree murder and issued a warrant for his arrest. Authorities says Hoffman fatally shot the 48-year-old Phillips, a native of Mason City, at a gas station in Arden Hills on August 11.
Investigators say they believe someone has been in contact with or provided aid to Hoffman. By filing this charge, it means harboring or assisting Hoffman becomes a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office says it will pursue charges against anyone who has aided or sheltered Hoffman since the killing or has lied to law enforcement about Hoffman’s whereabouts during the investigation.
