AUSTIN, Minn. – Multiple officers surrounded a southern Minnesota home early Monday afternoon.
Austin police were called to the 1900 block of East Oakland Ave.,which is across the street from Neveln Elementary School around 12:04 p.m. .
A man had called police and said he knocked on the door of a home that his girlfriend and kids were in. He told authorities that a man with a shotgun opened the door and pointed it at him.
Police then surrounded the house and found no one inside.
“Eventually, officers were able to get a hold of a responsible person who came to the residence. This person advised officers that no one was at that residence, nor had anybody been there, nor should have been there,” said Chief Brian Krueger of the Austin Police Department.
Officers were able to get a key to check the inside of the house to verify that.
“This person could be charged with filing a false police report. Obviously we take these kinds of calls extremely serious, and put a lot of manpower into it. The Austin Police Department and Mower County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the perimeter,” Krueger said.
The man was interviewed in the squad car and again at the station.
