AUSTIN, Minn. – Right now farmers markets are filled with fresh produce. One local community is looking to attract more folks in a unique way. Each month, the Austin Farmers Market features a different seasonal fruit or vegetable. This month, it’s corn. On Thursday, vendors celebrated “Corn Fest.”
It’s all about raising awareness about the farmers market and the benefits of using fresh, seasonal foods. They do this by bringing buyers in with live music, and providing recipes, prepared food, and information. One regular vendor says, it’s making a difference.
“There’s been an increase in traffic so yeah, it seems to be working,” says Jennifer Lomack.
Next month, community members can look forward to the Apple Festival.
