ALBERT LEA, Minn. – A downed tree and power line is to blame for an early morning crash in Albert Lea.

It happened just after 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning on 150th St. in Albert Lea. When authorities arrived on the scene, they noticed power lines laying across the road, and believe that a tree had fallen over and smashed into a nearby electrical pole.

Official reports from the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office say that 59-year-old Rickie Rice was traveling eastbound on 150 St. and had laid his motorcycle on its side after he saw the power lines down across the road. Both the driver and the bike ended up sliding underneath the power lines into the north ditch. Rice was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System Albert Lea with leg and or foot injuries.

The Albert Lea Police Department, Glenville First Responders, Gold Cross Ambulance, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and Alliant Energy were all on scene assisting in the crash.
