MASON CITY, Iowa – Much of our area saw extremely heavy rain this weekend and while the rain was welcome, the amount was not. It led to flash flooding and the closure of the Mason City Walmart store on a busy weekend.
Part of the roof collapsed due to the massive amount of water. No one was hurt. On Sunday, crews worked to fix the roof and took a closer look at the rest of the building’s roof structure. They want to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
One Walmart spokesperson says, safety is always their main focus.
“The safety of our associates, and safety of our customers is number one priority for us. We’re looking forward to re-opening the store and seeing our customers in there,” says Dan Toporek, VP of Communications.
He says he could not comment on the roof structure of other stores or the impact on sales.
Barring any safety concerns, the store is scheduled to reopen on Monday.
