MASON CITY, Iowa – Heavy rains this weekend caused a portion of the Mason City Walmart’s roof to collapse, which in turn forced the 24-hour store to close down for a few days.
On Monday afternoon, the store reopened after a weekend of thorough investigations of the building. Walmart officials say that they brought in structural engineers to check out the entire building to make sure there aren’t any troubled spots that could cause danger down the road.
Crews were still on scene on Monday cleaning up the wreckage from the roof collapse and assessing the overall damage to their store and products that were in the stockroom at the time. The closure of the store caused headaches for many shoppers, however closing the entire facility was the only way officials could accurately assess the damage.
