Charles City man arrested after threats to school

CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A Charles City man has been arrested, and charged with felony threat of terrorism and public intoxication.

On Sunday, Police say Loren Saxon, 48, claimed that he was with al-Qaida and made several threats about going to the schools and shooting as many children as he can.

Saxon did not have any weapons on him and was intoxicated at the time.

On Wednesday morning, the Charles City School District released a statement saying they are aware of the threats made, and are in communication with law enforcement.

As a result, the Charles City Police Department will have an increased presence at all schools in town. School employees have also been shown his picture as well.

Saxon remains in Floyd County Jail.
