MASON CITY, Iowa - Iowa Congressman, Bruce Braley says he’s wants to lower the cost of higher education. The democratic U.S. Senate candidate visited North Iowa Area Community College to talk with parents, staff, and students about the cost of school, and the burden of student debt. He says he would like to expand Pell Grants, and tax credits for the cost of tuition. Braley believes the federal government should have a role in making it affordable.
“ If you got rid of federally insured student loans, and take the federal government out of that picture, we’ve talked to college students who are getting loans in the private marketplace at 18%,” said Braley.
This was the eighth stop on Braley’s college affordability tour. He’s showing people the differences between his plans, and those of his opponent for U.S. Senate, Republican, Joni Ernst.
