Rochester among best in America for older workers

Downtown Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Grandparents.com has named Rochester one of its 10 Great Cities for Over-50 Job Seekers.

The cities were judged on unemployment rates and job growth in areas that are friendly to older workers, such as health, education and government.

The website described Rochester as “Home of the Mayo Clinic – one of the largest health care employers in the nation – a haven for nurses, technicians, home health aides, and personal care workers. More good news: About 38% of the city is over age 45, with a rock-bottom unemployment rate.  Computer geeks and media specialists will also fare well in Rochester, but teachers and firefighters might want to look elsewhere. The city is currently overloaded with both.”

Also on the list is…

Morgantown, West Virginia

Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Seattle, Washington

Gainesville, Florida

Ithaca, New York

Washington, D.C.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Ocean City, New Jersey

Northwest Texas (if you work in construction)
