Fire safety awards for a dozen Minnesota communities

ST. PAUL, Minn. – 12 Minnesota fire departments have received Life Safety Achievement Awards.

To qualify for the award from The National Association of State Fire Marshals Fire Research and Education Foundation, fire departments had to have zero fire deaths in residential structures or a 10% reduction from the previous year, have an active fire prevention program and demonstrate a commitment to preventing residential fires.

Being honored are fire departments in Alexandria, Brainerd, Chaska, Hastings, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Moorhead, Roseville, Spring Lake and White Bear.  State Fire Marshal Bruce West says “These awards highlight the hard work that happens in every corner of the state to keep Minnesotans safe.”

In the whole country, only North Carolina received more Life Safety Achievement Awards than Minnesota.
