Labor Day weekend is historically one of the most dangerous times out on area roads. Authorities say they will be in full force, cracking down on drunk driving.
Law enforcement agencies across our area have extra patrols out.
During Labor Day weekend last year, four people were killed on roads in both Iowa and Minnesota.
Local officials want to remind drivers to be safe, and plan ahead.
“There are going to be more vehicles on the road again with that influx of traffic, the potential for heavy rain falling through the weekend, we urge people to drive with a great deal of caution,” explains Lt. Dan Schaffer with the Iowa State Patrol.
The campaign to crack down on drunk driving is planned for the entire holiday weekend.
Some good news though, the number of impaired traffic related deaths in 2013 was down from the previous year.
