MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A trial date has been set for a Mason City man accused of torturing and killing a dog, and leaving his infant daughter alone in the house.
Court records indicate the trial for 26-year-old Dacota Alan Witham has been set for October 7th in Cerro Gordo County District Court after he pleaded not guilty to animal torture. Witham also faces an October 28th trial on separate charges of domestic abuse assault and child endangerment.
Police were initially called August 9th on a report of an assault. After an investigation, officers discovered a dog in Witham’s garage that had been killed in an inhumane manner. Officers also alleged Witham left his 7-month-old daughter unattended.
Witham remains jailed in lieu of a $7,000 bond.
