Bank robbery may be linked to murder suspect

TRACKING DOWN A FUGITIVE-PKG

ST. PAUL, Minn. –  The search for Lyle Marvin “Ty” Hoffman may be linked to a bank robbery in Blaine.  It happened on Sunday around 2 pm, when Officers of the Blaine Police Department responded to a bank robbery at the TCF Bank.  Video footage from the bank show that the robbery suspect appeared to match the description of Hoffman.  He is the homicide suspect from the August 11, 2014 Arden Hills Holiday Gas Station murder of Kelly Phillips.  During the robbery, the bearded suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money.  Police searched the area but were not able to find the suspect.  Police believe both the money and suspect have been tainted with red dye from a dye pack.  At the time of the robbery the white male suspect was wearing a white t-shirt, baseball-style cap, and glasses.

This case is under investigation by the Blaine Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office/Crime Scene Unit, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, the BCA and the FBI.

The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, may still be in the area, and should not be approached.  If anyone has information related to the TCF bank robbery or to the location of “Ty” Hoffman, they should immediately call 9-1-1.  To share any information or report a tip anonymously, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
