CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A north Iowa county is one step closer to having a new director in charge of their Veterans Affairs office.
In Floyd County, the VA commission voted to approve Maria Dieke, as their new leader. She currently serves on the commission. 23 people applied for the position and was narrowed down to 10. Leaders say there are a strict set of standards that have to be met.
“Our main concern was who we thought was going to serve the veterans of Floyd County the best, and that’s what we looked at. We also wanted to hire somebody who was a veteran, one who gives a little credibility, but also have performance for the job,” said William Vetter, one of the board commissioners.
The group will now send a letter of recommendation to the board of supervisors.
The Floyd County Supervisors will then get the final say during their meeting on September 9th.
