CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — A Cedar Rapids man has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for robbing a bank in Ely.
KWWL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1uBB7Zd ) Robert Melton was sentenced this week. He pleaded guilty in May to one count of bank robbery. He had faced up to 20 years in prison for robbing the Solon State Bank in January.
A witness had followed Melton as he drove from the bank and reported Melton’s location. Authorities quickly stopped and arrested him.
The judge sentenced Melton to three years and 10 months in prison. He must also serve a three-year term of supervised release following the sentence.
Ely is eight miles southeast of Cedar Rapids.
