MASON CITY, Iowa – Mason City Police are warning the public about suspicious phone calls residents have been receiving from people claiming to be with the government.
Captain Mike McKelvey said their local dispatch center has received numerous calls from upset residents the past two days. They say a caller claims the lRS will be issuing them an arrest warrant for tax evasion. The caller suggests that the recipient can pay an alleged debt to stop that process.
The calls appear to be made toward random people in the Mason City area.
It’s important to note that the IRS does not operate in this fashion. Police want to remind citizens not to provide personal information to unknown people over mail, phone or on the internet.
