ALBERT LEA, Minn. – A building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds is being renamed in honor of a local man.
“I can’t believe it. It’s great. It’s very thoughtful of them,” said Jan Reed.
Reed is a retired businessman whose family owns Hi-Yield in Hartland. The Freeborn County Fair Board is renaming its judging arena the “Jan Reed Livestock Arena.”
Reed is terminally ill, and the board wants to recognize the contributions he’s made to the live stock auction and 4-H Club over the years.
“He’s always felt that the fair is kind of the rallying point of our county and that the 4-H kids need his support. Jan and his family have always done a really fine job of doing that,” said Freeborn County Fair Board Treasurer, Larry Irvine.
This is the first building in the fair’s history to be named after an individual.
