MASON CITY, Iowa – Some “Shining Stars” have been recognized in north Iowa.

The Mason City Volunteer Service Department has awarded its annual Shining Star Award to Mary Clark and Jerry Weiland.  Clark is being honored for providing assistance on a variety of projects to several city departments.  Weiland received the award for donating his time to the Highland Park Golf Course and helping plant trees and clear walks at the Mason City Area Veterans Monument in Central Park.

The 2014 Shining Star Team award has been presented to the Nicholson Family for their work with the Adopt-A-Lot program, litter cleanup, graffiti cover-up, tree plantings, mailings, park painting and Earth Day activities.
