Jobs but not enough local workers

KIMT News 3 – Unemployment numbers for October are out and and look good. According to the United States Department of Labor, in Minnesota, the rate is 3.9 and in Iowa it is 4.5. That means jobs are out there, but, local companies report they are having trouble filling those positions.

It was a primary topic of discussion at a meeting among local business people in Cerro Gordo County. The unemployment rate there is a mere 4.2 and businesses are having trouble finding workers. Officials say it’s a matter of everyone working together to find solutions to bring workers to the area. It’s extremely important as more businesses are moving in.

“We want to do what we can to play a role to help out our existing companies to fill those positions as well as work on those new construction projects because you’re looking at 50-100-150 new jobs in some of those larger projects, says Shaun Arneson, Vice President of the North Iowa Corridor Economic Development Corporation.

Various organizations will be meeting later to discuss creative ways to work together and fill those jobs in demand.
