North Iowa Ice Arena gunning for ‘Kraft Hockeyville’ nomination

MASON CITY, Iowa – Football fans love the fall, soccer fans love the spring, but for hockey fans, their favorite season is simply hockey season.

Kraft Foods and the National Hockey League (NHL) are teaming up to find the most loyal and dedicated hockey fans in the nation. Whoever is awarded this noble prize, will win the title of Kraft Hockeyville, along with $150,000 toward rink renovations.

Our very own North Iowa Ice Arena has been nominated for this honor, but they need your help. All you have to do is sign up on the Kraft Hockeyville website and explain, in 2,500 words or less, why you love the arena and what it means to north Iowa.

It’s a simple task that could potentially come with big reward, and rink Manager, John Lloyd says this money could make a huge difference for the rec center. “The winner, of course would get $150,000 for upgrades on their ice arena and we need to upgrade very much,” he explains, “in fact, we need a lot more even than that.”

He tells us that he is already dreaming big for what he would do with the winnings. He tells us that at some point in the future he wants to install a new ice floor, update the overall inside of the facility and replace some of these bleachers.
