Re-investigating the Buddy Holly crash


KIMT News 3 – 56 years ago today – February 3, 1959 – the music died.  Now, someone is asking for the crash investigation to be re-opened. Just north of the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake the plane carrying Buddy Holly, Ricthie Valens, The Big Bopper, and the pilot crashed. The three had just finished their performance at the Winter Dance Party.

Now, more than five decades later, a man from New England wants the cause of the crash looked at once again, according to a report from the Storm Lake Pilot Tribune.

Jeff Nicholas, owner of the property where the plane crashed, says it’s common for people to feel the need to re-analyze the case.

“This happens periodically. There is just so much interest in the guys’ legacy.  From my perspective, there are two groups of people that will be affected by this, first off all the family, secondly the fans,” Nicholas said.

The National Transportation Safety Board says they have no plans to re-open the case.
