NORTHWOOD, Iowa- Iowa beef producers will be able to vote soon on a proposal for a state beef checkoff program.
It would be an additional 50 cents on top of the federal checkoff that’s a dollar-a-head.
Worth County Cattlemen’s Association Secretary Keith Braun said it gets passed, the money will go towards research, promoting local food and educating the public.
“I think promotions of these kind are necessary to keep everyone up-to-date with what’s going on,” said Braun. “How safe are food is actually in the United States, some of the safest food in the world.”
Beef producers will be able to vote in November. Absentee voting will start in October.
