KIMT News 3 – According to the United States Department of Transportation, cellphones are involved in 1.6 million car crashes each year that cause a half million injuries and take 6,000 lives.
In Iowa, law prohibits texting or emailing while driving — it does not affect phone calls. However, drivers with a learner’s permit or intermediate license are prohibited from using cellphones at all while driving. The law is similar in Minnesota — electronic messaging is prohibited for all drivers. Drivers with a learner’s permit or intermediate license, along with school bus drivers and commercial vehicle drivers, are banned from using cellphones at all.
