MASON CITY, Iowa – A local educator is receiving a big honor.
Ashley Flatebo is an instructional coach of science at Jefferson Elementary school in Mason City. She’s being named one of four state finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching. Ashley’s goal is to get students interested and excited about the subject.
“A really great tool to get students engaged is through science. It’s about discovering, inquiring, kids are wondering and asking questions and it’s such a great way to engage kids in classrooms,” Flatebo said.
The winner of the award will receive a trip to Washington D.C.
