Stolen bikes, frames, and parts recovered

MASON CITY, Iowa – After an on-going issue with bicycle thefts in Mason City all summer, police say 20 bicycles, along with various parts and accessories were found inside an apartment.

Mason City Police now have piles of bikes, frames and wheels in their possession.  They were found after officers searched a residence on South Pennsylvania.  Lieutenant Rich Jensen says stolen bikes have been quite the issue this year.  He says thieves aren’t just looking for an unlocked bike anymore.

“The bike thieves take the low hanging fruit, the bikes that weren’t secured. This year including bikes not secured, locks are being cut something different for us, had a lot of burglaries,” Jensen said.

Jensen says they’re going through the serial numbers of the bikes Friday.  They’ll be contacting you if the serial number is registered in your name.  Police say no arrests have been made.
