CHARLES CITY, Iowa- When most people think of active shooter training they think of law enforcement training for a dangerous situation, but on Tuesday the Charles City Police Department looked to show the public what they can do.
Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson has already spoke to several different schools and local businesses about active shooting situations as well as various classes.
He says they focus on 3 key things including: when to run, When to hide, and when to fight.
They looked at the history of shootings that have happened in the US to determine what people could have done when the crisis happened.
“I want to flip their mindset so that they’re not a victim if this happens to them,” says Chief Anderson. “I want to get the word out to as many people as I can so that we can have more survivors if a situation occurs. The police need the public’s help during these instances we can’t be there right away.”
