MASON CITY, Iowa – Some graduate students getting ready to go into the workforce are getting an early chance to apply their skills.
Mason City has a partnership with the Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities.
Through that initiative, University Of Iowa students are sent to areas around the state to lend their expertise on things like sustainability and urban planning.
The grad students have already been getting feedback from residents before they begin the project in force.
“I think we’ve been very successful in how we reacted to the 2008 floods and I think the things that we’ve been able to do in Mason City have made us a better community and now what we want to do with this project is to find a way to be prepared next time,’ says Steven Van Steenhuyse, Director of Development Services.
Mason City residents will be asked to provide input throughout the project.
Details on those meetings aren’t known yet.
