House fire sparked by lightning


ROCHESTER, Minn. – Storms overnight sparked an attic fire in Rochester.

According to the Rochester Fire Department, lightning struck a house around 1:30 a.m. on the 4500 block of Maple St. SE, setting the attic on fire. Crews were able to get it out quickly and by putting tarps down, were able to protect most of the house. They say the attic and master bedroom suffered damage, and the lightning caused damage to the home and electrical components.

No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $30,000.
