New digital stop signs to bring awareness to drivers

ALBERT LEA, Minn.- If you’ve driven around Albert Lea this week you might have noticed something a little different on the side of the road.

Three digital speed signs have been installed around town. They’re located on East and West Main St. and Hammer Rd.

The speed drops down from 45 mph to 30 in these spots.

It’s a good reminder to make sure you’re reducing your speed.

“Usually when someone sees a squad car along the street they’ll automatically look down at what they’re going and this is just another visual reminder,” said Lt. Jeff Strom, Albert Lea Police Department. “It doesn’t matter if there is a person there watching your speed or a machine instrument there watching your speed. It will still make you aware.”

They are looking to add a 4th digital sign within the next couple of weeks. That will be on South Broadway.
