MASON CITY, Iowa- Trying to get pregnant or having your first child can be a stressful time for any couple. While the woman get most of the changes to their body, man can also see effects. It’s called Sympathetic pregnancy syndrome. According to local doctors it is very common to see men’s body’s react similarly to the woman’s including morning sickness and even contractions.
“Usually when the woman comes in to see me they will bring their significant other with them and they will tell me they too are getting sick,” says Dr. Steven Thorn with Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. “I have been doing this for 30-35 years and I have seen it a lot. Most of the time it is because of stress. They are worrying about finances and preparing for the baby.”
Dr. Thorn says there is no need to worry. The effects of the pregnancy will eventually subdue.
