MASON CITY, Iowa- As rain continued Thursday morning, Cheslea Creek in Mason City overflowed and forced those at the Autumn Park Apartments out of their homes.
Officials say about 25 people are in the care of the Salvation Army while many others had already evacuated with family and friends.
Those with the city say they made the decision to evacuate around 8 a.m. because the creek has flooded into the apartments before.
“In flash floods situations, you have a limited time to react and so the decision was made that it was best we go and do a quick evacuation,” says Brent Trout, Mason City’s city administrator.
Trout says they will be looking at the area again to determine if those residents can move back into their homes.
