ROCKWELL, Iowa – A DOT worker directing traffic in North Iowa has been hit by a car.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office says the collision happened around 12:30 pm near the intersection of Highway 65 and 155th Street in Rockwell.
34-year-old Mark Nel of Nora Springs was directing traffic due to floodwater over the Highway when he was struck by the northbound car driven by 70-year-old Merlyn Tramel of Rockwell.
Nel was taken to Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa for his injuries. Tramel was cited for unsafe approach to a stationary vehicle, resulting in injury.
This accident remains under investigation.

ROCKWELL, Iowa – A worker with the Iowa Department of Transportation has been struck by a vehicle in Cerro Gordo County.
DOT crews are on the scene Thursday because Highway 65 has flooded south of Rockwell. The unidentified worker was hit and transported by ambulance for treatment. The driver has been cited. No other information has been released.
Highway 65 near Rockwell is going to be closed due to flooding. It will remain open until an alternate route can be devised.
