Update on flood conditions in Albert Lea

ALBERT LEA, Minn.  – Floodwaters continue to plague the City of Albert Lea.

The following roads remain closed:

  • Main Street between Garfield and Newton
  • Lincoln Avenue between Commercial and 9th St.
  • Wedgewood Road
  • Lakeview Boulevard between Fairway and Martin
  • Edgewater Drive
  • Highway 101 between Highway 13 and Edgewater
  • The intersection of Pearl and Elizabeth
  • Elmira from Stanley to Blackmer

In addition, water is overflowing onto Bridge Avenue at Katherine Street.  However, because of the closure on Main Street, Bridge must be kept open to maintain emergency services. People are asked to avoid Bridge Avenue and use an alternate route.

City officials say the sewer system is inundated and ask residents to please limit the use of water through the weekend to prevent additional damage to basements and city facilities.

Free flood clean up kits are still available at the Salvation Army office at 302 Court Street and materials for sandbags are at the City Garage at 414 Commercial Street.

Freeborn County Emergency Management is requesting that anyone who sustained flood related damages from the storms on September 21 and September 22 contact Jody Larson at (507) 373-3965 or jody.larson@co.freeborn.mn.us .  Please provide your name, address, phone number, number of occupants in the home, what was damaged, how it was damaged and the approximate value.  This will help the County to assess the individual damages that were incurred.

The Albert Lea Transfer Station, located at the intersection of County Road 101 & County Road 20, will be open today until 3 p.m.  The Station will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 24th.

And residents are reminded to avoid flood waters and to not drive on flooded roads or around barricades.
