CHARLES CITY, Iowa- Homes and businesses in North Iowa and southern Minnesota were damaged by last week’s flooding.
Floyd County assessor Gary VanderWerf said their office is asking those who were affected by the floods in their county to let them know about the damages that occurred.
VanderWerf said after seeing a lot of damaged property after the 2008 floods, this time around he wants to be more proactive and inspect any damaged homes or businesses. He said assessments and any changes to the condition of the property are reflected in the upcoming tax year, beginning Jan.1st, 2017.
“Were also trying to find out from our taxpayers, if they’re going to continue to put the improvement back into their house,” said VanderWerf. “Like if they had any basement finish damage, any walls, any cracks, we can make an adjustment for.”
