AUSTIN, Minn.- Sometimes kids can be more persuasive than what we realize. That’s how Sumner Elementary School got a visit from the mayor today.
4th graders from Sumner had a special question for Mayor Tom Stiehm.
Over the last couple of weeks, the students wrote him persuasive letters about things they believe need to be changed in Austin. Their suggestions include banning smoking throughout the city and picking up all the trash at Todd Park.
Stiehm says visits like these are one of his favorite parts of the job.
“Kids are so excited,” said Stiehm. “They get so excited to see you and they’re happy to see you and they have the most amazing questions. I’ve been asked many times if I live in the White House and if I know the President.”
Mayor Stiehm says he makes an effort to go to every classroom within the district that invites him.
